Meet in Nottingham! International leading scholars jointly offer advanced management courses

The 10th concentrated teaching session of the Ph.D. program in Financial Management at Hongjiang Business School - Advanced Management (Basic Compulsory Module II) was held from April 11th to 13th at the Nottingham University Business School (China) in Ningbo. The students of the Jinbo Class began their new semester of study. The international teaching team, composed of doctoral supervisors from the college, senior scholars from universities, and experts in the financial field, imparted knowledge in a comprehensive manner, covering lectures, research, case sharing, etc., balancing theory and practice.

This course was conducted entirely on the Ningbo campus of the University of Nottingham. The Business School meticulously planned the opening ceremony of the class, welcoming the students of the Hong Kong-Japan Gold Class.

After the opening ceremony, Guan Yanjun, a professor of management at Nottingham University Business School (China) and the first Chinese full professor at Durham University Business School in the UK, delivered a lecture on the international cutting-edge developments in "Organizational Behavior" to the students. 
Professor Guan Yanjun obtained a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in psychology from Peking University, and a doctorate in psychology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 2017, he became the first Chinese full professor at the Business School of Durham University in the UK. In 2023, he began to hold the position of professor at the Business School of Ningbo University of Nottingham. He has taught courses on leadership development, team management, career management, etc. for MBA and executive students from different cultural backgrounds. He also serves as a special training expert for the Ministry of Education and Shell China, etc. His research achievements in the fields of organizational management and psychology have been published in several flagship foreign journals, including Nature Climate Change, a subsidiary of Nature. From 2018 to 2023, he served as the deputy editor-in-chief of the journal "Journal of Vocational Behavior", which ranks first in terms of influence in the field of career management; since 2023, he has served as the deputy editor-in-chief of the journal "Journal of Cross-cultural Psychology".

After the first day of classes ended, all the participants went to the Gigye Auto Hangzhou Bay Second Manufacturing Base - the Zeke Factory - for a visit and discussion.

On the second day of the course, Martin Lockett, the former dean of the Nottingham University Business School (China) and a professor of strategic management, gave a lecture on "Cross-Cultural Management" to the students. 
Prof. Martin Lockett has dedicated his career to bridging the gap between academia and the business world. He has conducted research and taught at world-renowned universities such as Cambridge University, the Open University of the United Kingdom, Imperial College London, and Oxford University for 13 years. Prof. Martin Lockett served as the dean of the Nottingham Business School (China), and has extensive teaching experience in undergraduate courses, postgraduate courses, and MBA programs. 
Prof. Martin Lockett has held senior management positions in various fields for 16 years, including comprehensive management, strategic consulting, business development, and change management. He has extensive work experience in countries and regions across Europe, Asia, the United States, the Middle East, and Africa. The companies he has worked for include John Lewis (the largest department store in the UK), KPMG, American Management Systems, Sapient, and Arthur·D·Little, among others.

Professor David Phang, a renowned international scholar from Malaysia who holds the positions of Professor of Marketing and Information Systems at the Nottingham University Business School (China), and the Head of the Department of Entrepreneurship, Marketing and Management Systems, has delivered the "E-commerce" course to the students. 
Prof. Phang previously held the position of Professor of Information Systems at Fudan University. His research interests include mobile commerce, social media, and the social impact of IT. Currently, he serves as the senior editor of "E-Commerce Research and Applications" (ECRA), the deputy editor of "Information and Management", and a member of the editorial review committee for "JAIS" and "IEEE Engineering Management Journal". He has also served as the deputy editor of ICIS and a member of the conference committee, as well as the tracking chairperson of PACIS (2012-2015, 2017, 2018). He has designed and taught multiple executive training programs (such as Xinxilin and Jai Group, etc.).

On the third day of the course, Dr. Zhang Yuxin, an associate professor of finance at Nottingham University Business School (China), delivered the "Exploration of Artificial Intelligence: DeepSeek" course to the students in the newly-built FinTech Lab of the business school. 
Dr. Zhang obtained a Ph.D. in Finance from Imperial College London in 2017. Before that, he received a Master's degree in Statistics from the University of Chicago and a Master's degree in Actuarial Studies from the Australian National University. His research focuses mainly on household finance, fintech, and macrofinance. He has taught executive training programs (such as Agricultural Bank of China, Construction Bank of China, Zhejiang Transportation Group, etc.) on multiple occasions.

In the afternoon, Dr. Jiang Yangyang, an associate professor of marketing at the Nottingham University Business School (China), delivered a lecture on "International Marketing" to the participants. 
Dr. Jiang is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy of the United Kingdom. She was selected as one of the top 2% scientists in the world, and her research results have been published in several top academic journals. Besides working in marketing and management-related positions in several multinational companies, Dr. Jiang also served as an employee of Coca-Cola Company and worked for four Olympic Games.

As the first trip to Ningbo for Class 1 of Xiangjiang Jinbo, and also the concluding journey of the concentrated teaching in cities outside Hong Kong, the students not only returned to the campus and relived their youthful days in college, but also, while enjoying the in-depth academic study, they jointly visited the scenic East Qian Lake in eastern Zhejiang Province, expressing their feelings by the lake, sharing the friendship among classmates and dreaming about a bright future. This marked a profound southern Chinese footnote for this journey of studying at Xiangjiang University.
